Batubara – jurnalpolisi.id Wartawan adalah orang bebas, wartawan bebas menulis apa yang Ia lihat dan Ia dengar berdasarkan hati nurani, kode etik dan UU Pers. Wartawan tidak memiliki kategori status sosial yang pasti, pagi Ia bisa ngobrol dengan abang becak, Siang Ia bisa makan bersama para pejabat, sore Ia bisa bincang-bincang dengan pemuka agama dan malam ia juga bisa berada di cafe, diskotik, hingga menjelang subuh ia masih sibuk ngambil gambar korban kejahatan di ruang mayat sebuah Rumah Sakit. Setiap hari Ia menyapa publik dengan informasi, tak peduli Informasi yang disajikan itu diapresiasi atau dicaci, untuk memenuhi kewajibannya terhadap publik, wartawan memberikan informasi berdasarkan kebenaran yang diyakininya benar dan chek and richek, *terkadang risiko nyawa tanpa Ia sadari mengancam dirinya dan keluarganya.* Sungguh profesi yang amat agung, dimana seorang wartawan berperan besar dalam seluruh aspek kehidupan, sejarah mencatat, kemerdekaan Indonesia dikumandangkan ke seantero dunia melalui media oleh seorang wartawan Al-quranul karim, Al – hadist pun hasil daripada kegigihan para wartawan (para sahabat Nabi) didalam mencatatkan wahyu Ilahi yang turun kepada para Nabi dan mencatatkan hadist yang disampaikan Rasulullah kepada umatnya kala itu. Begitu penting peran wartawan dalam sendi – sendi kehidupan berbangsa dan bernegara. Namun…. mengapa kini wartawan dibungkam dengan pasal 310,311,UU ITE, Surat Edaran Kapolri tentang ujaran kebencian dan upaya paksa mempidanakan wartawan dengan cara – cara yang sangat bertentangan dengan UU Pers dan KIP bahkan HAM. Wartawan tak perlu dibungkam, wartawan tak perlu dipidana, *wartawan itu hanya butuh dibina dan diawasi dengan profesional dan menjadikan UU Pers sebagai satu – satunya alat mengontrol, mengawasi kebebasan Pers di negeri ini.* Wartawan bukan untuk ditakuti, wartawan bukan untuk dibasmi, wartawan penentu masahadapan sebuah bangsa dan kemajuan sebuah negara serta pertahanan negara.
